Majors Division

Yankees 4, Cardinals 1: The Yankees beat the Cardinals behind five scoreless innings from starting pitcher Jackson Staples. Eli Berrick closed out the game and struck out three. Ethan Argue hit a massive triple that he extended to an inside the park home run. Luc Mollard went 2 for 3 and scored two runs and Miles Hickey drove in two runs. For the Cardinals, pitcher Tommy Austin started and pitched well. Marshawn Jaramillo went 3 for 3 and scored the lone run.

Giants 6, White Sox 5: The Giants starter Gabe Katz-Savell pitched a five strong innings, allowing just three runs. Zach Thompson's first inning three-run home run put the Giants out front and they never trailed. Wyatt Thompson and Max French had multiple hits and Milo Kagiwada chased down a fly ball in left field for the final out.

Cardinals 8, Angels 5: Marshawn Jaramillo pitched four and two-third innings and led the Cardinals attack with a first inning two-run homer. Mikey Robinson went 3 for 4 and Tommy Austin added a double and stole home. Elias Macalino closed out the game with the help of sparkling defense from Simon Adams and Austin. For the Angels, Lorenzo Bartolotti drove in two runs with a bases-loaded ground ball. Samuel Edelman and Jonah Chambliss pitched well and limited the Cardinals to one run over four innings.

Red Sox 10, Orioles 2: The Red Sox were paced by the pitching

of Kaj O'Connell, Aaron Gonzalez and Noah Patterson, and the timely hitting of Benjamin Seashore Hobson and Joseph Pinon. Sam Gordon contributed with a fine defensive play at second base. For the Orioles, Henry Quintella led the offense with two hits. Oren Rose-Strochlic pitched four strong innings and Louis Whitaker helped keep the score close with some nice glove work.

A's 11, Nationals 10: The Nationals jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but the A's followed with seven runs of their own. The Nationals rallied for six runs in the third and two more in the fourth. In the sixth inning, the A's put ! up a four spot to take the lead. Jack Hanson mowed down the first three batters in the bottom of the sixth to close the game. Grant Konkel went 3 for 3 and Cas Graffagna went 2 for 3 with three RBI. The Nationals offense was led by Henry Deck (3 1B) and Sam Walsh (2 1B). Paul Herman made a clutch play at shortstop, chasing down a soft line drive over his head.

Rangers 11, Nationals 4: The Rangers broke their early season losing streak with a victory over the Nationals. Jack Clydesdale and Mays Washington were the offensive stars, they combined for five hits and six RBI's while Charlotte Low pitched four strong innings and gave up one run. The Nationals were led by Zachary Nelson and Liam Rizzo, who both had two hits, and Dylan Moore added a two-run double.

Rangers 16, Richmond A's 5: For the Rangers, Noah Boonin and Will Herbert led offense with six RBI and two hits apiece. Harper Eden pitched a scoreless inning of relief in his first appearance of the season. Deari and Kyree paced the Richmond A's attack and combined for four hits and an RBI.

Oakland Girls Softball League

12/14U Division

Green Wave 12, Hayward Diamond Divas 10: Miranda Sanborn played reliable defense and drove in multiple runs for the Green Wave. Stella McCarthy was strong on the mound and held the Divas in check over the final two innings. Caroline Wynne made several strong defensive plays, and Amanda Wiley overcame adversity in a strong pitching effort.

Thunder 14, Hayward Raiderettes 11: The Thunder rallied in the fourth inning for a dramatic 14-11 victory. Emma Mears led the offense with a single and a double. Defensively, Destiny Bernstine recorded three putouts, while Kate Packer-Dawley struck out three batters.

Thieves 8, Piedmont Mud Hens 8: In the bottom of the fifth inning, Thieves pitcher Marissa Petty caught a sharp line-drive to save a run and keep the game tied 8-8. Petty, Ruby Crudo, Sumner Lehman and Hayley Dennings each had two hits, and Jordan Klein added a double to pace the ! offense. ! Haley Molsick-Gibson, Olivia Petty and Ruby Crudo each made stellar defensive plays to preserve the tie.

BullDogs 11, Piedmont Dragons 7: Ellie Novogradic made her pitching debut and led the BullDogs offense, going 3 for 3 with two doubles and a triple. Natalia Perez and Cameron Parks also contributed multiple hits. Defensive plays were turned in by Livi Calfaro-Mirviss, Samantha Patterson-Kohout and Claire VanNess. For the Dragons, Julia Tucher went 2 for 2 and scored a run, while Nina Tafapolsky and Anna Smegal both drew two walks and combined for three runs. For the Dragons, Caroline Strauch had a heads up double play.

10U Division

Light Blue Lightning 13, Piedmont Silver Dolphins 2: Alia Mesker-Irwin hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and Nia Markham, Emily Ballati and Scarlett Sens turned in strong pitching performances for the Light Blue Lightning. Tyler Velasquez added two hits for the Lightning, who improved their record to 3-0.

Blue Dolphins 4, Black Pandas 0: Blue Dolphins took the lead late in the game with hits from Sara Blaschka, Liv Catalano, Annadella Healy, Maya Mehta, Symone White, Ciara Cafaro-Mirviss, Miriam Lerner, Alice McCullough and Maggie Maurer. Solid pitching was provided by Sara Blaschka, Kendall Maurer, Annadella Healy and Symone White. Tight defense was turned in by Kendall Clay, Gwen McCarthy, Elisa McLeod and Elektra Williams.

Blue Dolphins 3, Mini-Extremes 2: The Blue Dolphins came from behind to win a nail-biter game against the Mini-extremes. Maya Mehta hit a walk-off single to drive in Kendall Clay for the game-winning run. Strong pitching was turned in by Miriam Lerner, Maggie Maurer, Sara Blaschka, Kendall Maurer and Annadella Healy. Symone White, Alice McCullough, Elektra Williams, Ciara Cafaro-Mirviss and Liv Catalano contributed hits in the win. The Mini-extremes had hits from Mia, Ginger, Gretchen and Quinn.

Purple Pandas 4, Silver Dolphins 3: The Purple Pandas win streak hit two after defeating the Silver Dolphins 4-3.! On the m! ound, Ellie Bedworth, Karolina Herold, Lyla Markus, and Madelyn Wenzel pitched well. The Pandas played strong defense, with Isley Douglas anchoring the defense. The game ball went to Lyla Markus, for her bases-clearing hit that got the Purple Panda offense rolling.

Rowing

Oakland's Artemis Rowing is off to a championship spring after two great showings at recent regattas. Rowers from all levels brought back medals and set personal records at the Pacific Invitational Regatta at Lake Merced on March 2 and a meet against Stockton Rowing Club at the Oakland Estuary on March 24.

At the Pacific Invitational, Artemis competed against 13 of the top crews in Northern California, bringing home four first place trophies, two second place and numerous third place. Most of Artemis' rowers attend school in Oakland and Alameda.

"We work hard to integrate the new kids with the more experienced rowers, so they can learn from each other. That pays off," said coach Sarah Tinsley. "I was so excited to see how well they all did in their first spring race. Everyone worked really hard and was so supportive of each other, it was great to see them do so well."

The varsity crews especially did well, racing against rowers who in many cases were several years older and more experienced. The women's varsity crew of with Maryse Suppiger and Mimi Robles-Wong, placed first with a time of 6:41.3. First-place honors also went to the women's varsity four: Nile Wynar, Natalie Foster, Oliva Walsh and Sarah Newsham, with a time of 6:38.2.

In the second heat of the women's varsity two competition, Artemis rowers Christine Hovermale and Blanca Seiter placed second, with a time of 6:18.7.

The freshmen and novice women also successful at the Pacific Invitational. First place awards went to the frosh eight "A" boat and the novice four, while the frosh eight "B" boat won second place. "A" boat rowers were Maryse Suppiger, Christine Hovermale, Blanca Seiter, Mimi Robles-Wong, Chloe, Olivia Walsh, Natalie F! oster and! Katie Snodgrass. Molly Hetherwick was coxswain. They turned in a winning time of 5:49.8.

The novice four rowers, who finished in 6:19.9, were Jackie Christie, Maura Phillips, Chloe Wanaselja and Maka Williams. Jiya Ridgway was coxswain. The frosh 8 "B" boat included Sophia Moore, Vanessa Dolan, Riley Moore, Avery Andrews, Maura Phillips, Sierra Shea, Maka Williams, Kira Marshall. Moire Bruin was coxswain and they finished in 5:50.8.

Next up for Artemis is the Long Beach Invitational, followed by the 510 Sprints in the Estuary and the Southwest Regionals at Lake Natoma near Sacramento. In July, the team heads to Vancouver for the British Columbia Championships.

Artemis Rowing, formerly Oakland Youth Rowing, includes about 70 rowers from middle school through adult, at all skill levels, for recreational and competitive rowing. The club emphasizes diversity and inclusiveness, providing training and camaraderie for rowers of all backgrounds.
